SKM About

Project Singa

With the support of the Singapore Kindness Movement together with our valued Partners, local toy design company Play Imaginative is proud to spearhead Project Singa 2010: Kindness in the Lion City. As part of the SKM initiative to encourage a gracious society and lifestyle, Project Singa aims to bring out considerate social behaviour in Singaporeans through a common language – art.

Singa Lion, the well-known kindness mascot, will be unveiled as an all-new urban vinyl figurine as part of the World Kindness Day celebrations. In this range of specially created designs, the Singa Lion figurines spread messages of kindness and courtesy. Our Partners include 100PLUS, Asia Pacific Breweries, AVA, BDO, Courts, F&N, Goodrich, HP Singapore, IRCC, KDK, Ocean Butterflies Music, Popular, Swee Lee Music Café, Tangs and Tilt.

Singa the Courtesy Lion

Since March 2001, the National Courtesy Campaign, which was originally launched in 1979, was incorporated into the Singapore Kindness Movement. Indeed, courtesy is the simplest form of kindness, and both courtesy and kindness are underpinned by sincerity – kindness comes from the heart, and courtesy forms the action, the outward expression of kindness.

Singa the Lion, the familiar icon for courtesy that most Singaporeans grew up with, is placed together with the kindness heart in the Singapore Kindness Movement’s logo, bringing courtesy and kindness together to foster a more gracious society.

World Kindness Day

Back in 1998, the World Kindness Movement conference decided to set aside one day in the year – 13 November – to reaffirm its commitment to kindness as citizens of the world. This year, SKM is spearheading a drive to get everyone to affirm and thank the kind people they know.

The purpose of World Kindness Day is for us to look beyond ourselves, the boundaries of our country, culture, race, and religion, and realise we are citizens of the world. And as world citizens, we share a commonality – kindness. While people from other cultures may appear ‘different’, it does not mean that they are very different from us. This World Kindness Day is a good opportunity for us to close the gaps and embrace each other as members of the human race sharing Mother Earth.

Singapore Kindness Movement

In his 1996 New Year Message, then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong highlighted the need for Singapore to become a gracious society by the 21st century.

Considerate social behaviour supported by a strong economy and good government will make Singapore the best home for its people.

In line with Mr. Goh’s call to build a gracious society, the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) aims to encourage Singaporeans to make a positive commitment to gracious living through simple acts of kindness in their daily activities.
